Let there be light

Light... the word and the concept both are familiar to us. So much so that we all take it so ‘lightly’ (pun unintended). The powerful version of energy that lights up our lives has relevance in multiple folds for our existence.

Let’s rush back to the school where we were introduced to the concept of photosynthesis. Lights are the dope for chlorophyll to produce oxygen, which inturn is the fuel for rest of the organisms to run. The sun rays bounce off the earth to heat up the atmosphere, so that we and the other living organisms don’t... well freeze to death a.k.a ‘Turning Popsicle’.

Visible light is important to us, because it is intimately involved in the common process of helping us to see things. The red light on the traffic signal, love messages on the mobile device, that pretty girl at the coffee shop, your new dream office and your kids getting married. Light plays a passive but a very important role.

While the days are filled with natural light from the grand source sun, lot of innovation had led to cheaper and more convenient forms of creating light while the sun sleeps on our side of the world. From carbon button lamps, to the conventional incandescent light bulbs, to portable flashlights to big halogen lamps, the world has been lit by these man-made avatars of the light emitting sun. Recent research and protest by energy conservationists have also led to the invention of CFL bulbs and LED lights, which consume less power but emit enough light.

The latest fad around light is being furthered by the camera junkies. Every person with a smart phone today is a mini photographer with photo sharing social sites being their exhibition halls. Light exposures: over and minimalistic, shadow play and silhouettes shot out of palm sized devices are turning the world into a beautiful story.

What else defines the relevance of light than the fact that your good looking selfie was thanks to... good light play.

Light is a positive word. From functional relevance to relevance in vanity, it is prevalent in all walks of our lives. So much so that the positivity it emits made us use it as an apt adaptation for philanthropy. Lighting up lives.

The Power of Rain-Gods

The MET department recently announced that the monsoon has hit the entire country in all its might. People who would have experienced this Thor-like power-graphic effect on the skyline or in the fields, have a shared a mix of reactions. While the city cries of water logged roads & long, uncomfortable travel, the villages rejoice & welcome the rain. You will always find people sharing these emotions the other way round too.

But there is one reaction that is universal. And that reaction is to a POWER-CUT. Watching an exciting football match and the screen going blank invites a variety of true-bred shouts from us. No one likes to sleep & sweat at the same time, neither do they want to play Jack & Jill & stumble from the stairs in the dark. But rains have different plans for us. Rains usually invite frequent and untimely power-cuts which usually send our schedule and comfort spiraling.
At Mahindra Powerol, we understand this. And that’s why we have powered up diesel generators to keep the POWER-ON.  These compact-size, fuel efficient dg sets allow you the ability to keep the power running even when the rains decide to do a display.

So then, if the rains decide to play spoil sport, don’t fret. Because with us, the POWER is always in your hands...

CPCB II, CPCB 2 NORMS FOR DIESEL GENERATORS. What does it mean and what are its implications?

In order to make its engines CPCB 2 ready, Mahindra Powerol uses two techniques. One is a time modification to when the fuel makes its way inside an engine's controlled-explosion room, better known as a combustion chamber. The perfect timing will allow the fuel to burn more evenly and thoroughly. The other technique will include an addition of an EGR system. In this the exhaust gases will be ‘reconstituted’ back into the engines so that the overall carbon emissions of the CPCB 2 compliant engines will be much lower with the same fuel consumption per hour producing equal amounts of energy than the CPCB 1 compliant engines.

Mahindra Powerol has begun production of its CPCB 2 compliant diesel engines and generators.

Exhaust Gas Reconstituted System (EGR system)

The Exhaust System typically removes the exhaust gases from the Engine into the atmosphere. The new EGR system will send measured quantity of exhaust gas into the engine cylinder under various engine operating conditions. This is achieved by opening the EGR valve to a pre-determined level and allowing the exhaust gases to pass through the engine. Some models may also incorporate an Exhaust Cooling Unit.

Exhaust gas is made to pass through EGR cooler which is cooled by Engine water of the cooling system to reduce the gas temperature. After passing through the EGR cooler, exhaust gas enters the intake system of the engine.

EGR system components

EGR cooler: The Mahindra Powerol CPCB 2 compliant diesel generation also come with an EGR cooler is required to cool the exhaust gas to get the additional benefit on NOx reduction.

EGR valve: It is a solenoid operated valve for EGR supply. EGR valve closes or opens according to the ECU input provided by the Dual Temperature Switch and Speed fluctuations.

Mahindra Powerol’s new CPCB 2 engines and diesel generators are guaranteed to bring about a positive environmental impact. It has already produced over 150 engines that are running for several hours in the field.
